Sidecar and Helix Scooter?

Postby Cincycaddy » Thu Jul 01, 2010 12:47 pm

Going to look at a 1996 Helix with what appears to be a Texas Side car. They are asking $500 for the rig, scooter runs, appears to be a bit rough, but I figure the sidecar has to be worth at least $500, opinions?

Shoot yeah, 500 bucks in any condition would be a steal. I just seen a sidecar going for $1500. They had another Helix/Texas Sidecar rig going for 3500. Even just for a quick clean up and resale you can do really well.
Ain't you big for a scooter?

If you are not buying it PM me!
Looks like it needs some front end work.

I'd think that was a good deal. IMHO $500 for either the bike or the side care is still a good deal, but BOTH!!

Let us know.

Went and looked at it this evening. 30k miles on the Helix. All the panels are in pretty poor shape. Sidecar could use a respray, but the fiberglass is in good shape. Seems to run ok. Going back to transfer the title tomorrow and try to drive it home.

Buying it for the side car but very tempted to keep the scoot and make a rat rod/ mad max machine out of it.

They didn't want to haggle much but we settled at $450 :)

:) Scoot has a great story. The woman I'm getting it from inherited from her grandpa. He would throw his oxygen tank in the sidecar and ride down to the VA hospital for his checkups. What a site to have seen.

Cruiser, remind me, what part of Ohio are you from?

About 100 miles north of you near Coldwater, Ohio.

You could go to jail for what you just did!

By the way, that was "Highway robbery" I was reffering to!

$4000.00 gets you a new one.

Picked it up and drove it home the 20 miles or so back to Ohio on the backroads. I would advise anyone who is interested in investing in a sidecar rig to test drive one before you buy. A much different driving experience. But I must say even though this Helix is raggedy I sure got a bunch of waves and thumbs up. Crazy how people love sidecars.

Just found a sidecar on E Bay. It is Honda Helix application, by Texas Sidecar.

Turns out the one I have is "Ride By Side" which was purchased and became Texas Side Cars ~ 2000. The date on mine is 8/97 so it' s about 13 yrs old. I gave in and strapped it to my 87 Helix since I sold off the 96. Four clamps and 8 bolts. Only modification is that the splash pan under the scoot needed to be removed. Took about an hour to put on (maybe 30 mins with two people) I'm probably gonna hold onto this one for a few weeks then get rid of it. Then I can check the sidecar off my list of things I've always wanted. The rig handles much better on my 87 than the ratty 96, crazy. That one on ebay is in Seattle, you are in Florida correct? Shipping could get expensive.

I need to ask about your windshield on the 87. It looks like a shorty? Where did you get it?
