New belt and rollers

Postby Av8er » Sun Aug 05, 2018 8:28 am

So I am wanting to change the belt and rollers as they are from 07 and haven’t been changed since new. I see some say the gates belt is not the correct size so what belt do you recommend? I will be going with Dr. pulley sliders as well. I am happy with the performance and do not want to lose any top speed or hill climbing abilities as they ar both perfect. What size sliders should I use?

I bought 21 gram sliders. Dr. Pulley. Take off is better and top speed is 68 usually. Wind, road make a difference. Have had it to 73 once. I am very happy with them.

Right now I can cruise at a true 70 if on flat ground around here so I might would need to go with a little heavier. I am ok with the take off performance or lack of I should say.

(Outside circumference mm) x (top width mm) x (Angle degrees)

Belt OEM Bando: 831x22.5x30

Gates 6012: 848x23x30

I've been running the Gates 6012 belt with no issues.

The Gates is just over 5/8" longer than an O.E.M. belt and only .020" wider.

I would think that the longer belt will ride higher on the drive and a bit higher on the driven. So other than being a bit looser on the idle, I'm not really sure what advantage one is over the other. In my mind it would keep the ratio geared a bit more toward power than speed. Sometimes having a bit more rpms with a lower ratio will still net you more speed as the higher ratio may tend to lug the motor a bit and overall you would lose a bit of speed.

Just some ramblings of an old man. :)
