Whirring/engine cuts out if I try to gas it immediately

Postby Frisco Helix » Sun May 26, 2019 7:56 pm

Hi guys, not a huge issue but a slight annoyance.

Directly after I start the engine, I've noticed on some occasions that if I twist the gas immediately, a slightly high pitched whirring sound that lasts for a split second occurs, followed by the engine being completely cut off (turns off).

This entire issue is avoided if I simply wait 10-15 seconds after initial engine start, or if I "nurse" it or tickle it by slowly accelerating and progressively increasing acceleration more and more. I usually do a combination of both waiting a few seconds and also starting off accelerating slowly.

Is this something I should address? Will it lead to longer term issues if I don't address? What's going on?

Thanks everyone.

What is the mileage on the scooter?

Place scooter on centerstand. With the engine off, use your hand to spin the rear wheel forward and back. Any unusual scraping or bearing noises?

In a off-road space, ride the scooter to 15 mph then turn the ignition off and coast to a stop. Any excessive drive train noises?

Report back.
